Caring for your silk
All Aspara Silk products come with individual care notes.
Professional cleaning is suitable for our entire Aspara Silk collection.
Unless the garment carries an explicit dry clean only instruction or has been stained, we recommend hand washing as silk tends to look better and last longer when washed by hand.
Follow these simple tips to maintain the beauty and lustre of your silk accessories for years to come.

Cleaning by hand
If you spill something on your silk garment dont put water on the stained area as this may cause a permanent ring. Take the item to a dry cleaner as soon as possible.
Silk can be cleaned by hand washing with lukewarm water using a mild soap. Wash each silk garment separately as dyes may bleed. We recommend soaking the fabric in lukewarm water with a mild soap for about 5 minutes or less. Avoid using detergents as these are abrasive and will cause damage. Make sure the water is not too cold or too hot as this will stretch or shrink the garment. Avoid soaking the silk as this may fade the dye.
Rub any stains very lightly under the soap-water. Take care not to rub too hard as this can damage the fabric. Rinse with water containing a few tablespoons of white vinegar. This will remove the soap and help restore shine. Final rinse should be with cold water only.
Shake off excess water and air dry. Tumble-drying is not recommended as this tends to heat and crease the fibres, making the fibres brittle. Do not dry in sunlight or near radiators as this can damage the silk fibres and cause colour fading.
Avoiding chemicals
If you clean the garment in the kitchen or bathroom, make sure the countertops are clear and clean so as to avoid snags, rips, or harmful chemicals to touch the garment.
Do not allow perfume, cologne, or alcoholic beverages to touch the garment during the washing process. These liquids can disturb the dye and cause the garment to bleed.
Substances containing alcohol will damage silk fabric. Keep silk away from perfumes, hairspray and deodorants.
Never use any of the following:
Bleach, or any detergent that contains bleach
Brighteners
Inexpensive laundry detergents as these often contain some kind of bleach
Alkaline detergents
Pre-soak products
Fabric softeners
Enzyme detergents
Ironing and storage
Use an iron on a very low heat (usually the lowest setting) to lightly press the fabric. Excessive heat will damage any silk garment.
When not wearing your silk product, fold it without creasing it and store it in a box wrapped in acid-free tissue paper. You can also hang silk scarves over a padded hanger.
