About Aspara Silk

About Aspara Silk
Our story

The idea behind Aspara Silk is simple: we want to make a difference to the communities of artisans we work with.

After three decades of civil conflict and isolation, Cambodians are struggling to recapture their cultural and artistic heritage. By providing training and livelihoods for rural women and young people, the revival of traditional silk making has tremendous economic and cultural significance for Cambodia.

Today, rural artisans are once again creating exquisite fabrics. From spinning on old bicycle wheels to using natural dyes from plants, the enthusiasm and resourcefulness of Cambodian weavers is remarkable.

Yet, many do not realize how valuable their products are or how to enhance them with more marketable designs and better quality dyes. Their lack of knowledge about market access often leaves them dependent on middlemen and living on less than 50p a day.

Aspara Silk works directly with these producers to cut out the middleman. We pass on our knowledge and help financially so that these small businesses are able to meet western production standards as well as offering a competitive and beautiful product.

Click here to find out more about the individual weavers we work with and hear their own stories.

At Aspara Silk, we believe in creating lasting impressions not just through our unique accessories but in the way we work with the people and communities who bring these designs to life.

We hope you love what you see and are inspired by the stories and people behind our products.
